Did you have a lovely 4th of July week if you live in the US?
We did – from picnics to fireworks on the lake to live music, it was wonderful. I love the first week of July on the lake!
Summer is so short in New England that we have to enjoy it while we can!
Speaking of summer fun, I want to remind you that our next walking/hiking meditation adventure is next Monday, July 15th at Stanley Park in Westfield, MA.
We’ll meet at Gate 2 at 10 am. This gate is at 286 Western Avenue, Westfield, MA.
Please let me know if you’d like to join us this time! We had a blest time in Otis in June!
Speaking of spending more time in the great outdoors, let’s take a look at some things to do at home.
Most of us plan at least a few days of vacation time which includes going somewhere else.
But, what about the evenings or weekends when you’re at home?
Here are a few ideas:
- Build a small circle of stones or cement blocks in your backyard for a firepit. Then make a small fire in it to roast marshmallows or make s’mores! This is especially a hit with grandkids if you have any.
- Drive-in movie theaters are making a comeback – check if there’s one open near you and go see a movie!
- Take a walk around your neighborhood and look at all the pretty flowers that people are growing – maybe make a game out of identifying as many as you can.
- Try making lemonade or iced tea from scratch, add your own sugar or drink it unsweetened. It will taste better than packaged iced tea for sure!
- Find a farmer’s market and get some fresh from the field vegetables and fruit. Remember the taste of fresh watermelon running down your chin?
- Many areas have country fairs. Find one near you and enjoy a day of farm animals, games, contests, and home cooked food.
- Make your own ice cream! No need for a fancy machine. Here’s a recipe that looks good.
- Pick your own blueberries. Search for somewhere near you that offers pick your own and enjoy an afternoon of fruit picking and eating!
Think back to your childhood – what other fun things did you enjoy back then that might be fun to repeat now?
All of these things are fun activities to enjoy with others which helps us prevent dementia diseases like Alzheimer’s.
Let me know what you come up with and I’ll share it so we can all enjoy more summer shenanigans!
And, for those with knees that shout out when hiking, here a short video with a different way of walking uphill that makes those knees happier.
Best of Health,
