Hope you’re all staying safe and warm through this crazy winter weather!
Here in Western MA, we’re experiencing our second snow/ice storm within a week, and I am definitely counting the days until Spring!
Today’s video is part of my series of 5-minute workouts designed to target specific muscles and help you age strong! This one focuses on upper body strength with two Pilates exercises that maximize the benefits you’ll get with just a five minute exercise break.
The Role of Consistency in Building and Maintaining Muscle Mass After 50
- Establishing a Routine
The first and most important step is establishing a consistent routine! Regular exercise is the key to muscle development and overall strength. That’s why I created this video series of short segments that can easily fit into your daily schedule in five minutes or less. I want to make it as simple as possible for you to start taking your fitness seriously.
Start with just one 5-minute segment each day. After about a month, it will become a habit. Once that happens, you can add another segment to your routine.
Each of my videos targets a specific muscle group, so you can start by doing today’s upper body workout six days a week for a month. After that, try alternating with a lower body series every other day. This approach ensures you’re working both your upper and lower body consistently. You’ll be amazed at the differences you’ll see in as little as 30 days!
- Track Your Progress
Monitoring your progress is a powerful motivator and can increase your desire to keep going. It’s easy to keep track using a simple note in your daily calendar. Try this:
- UB for upper body day
- LB for lower body day
- R for rest day (which you should take once a week to give your muscles time to recover)
Another great way to track your progress is by taking a picture of your arms on Day 1, then another after 30 days. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by the difference!
