Sunshine is here, and summer is on its way! Yay!
Are YOU Ready?
Got your sunscreen handy?
Apparently, I was not ready last week. We had a lovely outside Yoga class and I didn’t bring my sunscreen. Got a little red nose to show for it! I almost always wear a hat as well, but didn’t bring that either! Talk about being unprepared…
Here are my sunscreen recommendations:
Badger Sport 40 SPF
Badger Active 30 SPF
Badger Baby 40 SPF for the kids
Here’s why I recommend these:
- They are mineral sunscreens.
- They have fewer ingredients than anything else I have found
- All can be purchased in local stores, or on Amazon, which makes them easily available.
- All are rated on the EWG’s Skin Deep web site with zero
I have used Badger sunscreens for years and I like the feel of them on my skin. There is no paste like texture as in some other mineral sunscreens.
In addition to your sunscreen, don’t forget about your eyes. Wear sunglasses that are polarized and with UV protection. Make sure they fit well so you’ll be comfortable; and if your eyes are especially sensitive to the sun or bright lights, make sure they are dark enough.
There is still some controversy about whether sunscreens protect us against some types of skin cancer, so that’s why I always wear a hat if I’m on the boat or down at the beach. The hat also helps protect my sensitive Irish eyes.
Here in the Berkshires summer also means mosquito and tick season. In fact, the ticks have arrived early this year!
There is a deet-free product that takes care of both of these unlikeable critters, called REPEL Lemon Eucalyptus. Consumer reports tested it for several years in a row and it repelled just as well as the sprays containing deet, so I feel safer using this one.
It’s available on Amazon and I found it in Home Depot as well.
Make sure it’s the one in the photo below as REPEL makes more than one product.
Hoping we all have a great summer this year.
Best of Health,
Kathi
