I just found out that next Tuesday, May 31st is National Meditation Day! Cool! Let’s Meditate together. I’ll be live on Facebook at 9 am (eastern) for a loving kindness mediation. Join me if you can, here! https://www.facebook.com/WomenOver50Coach
And, speaking of meditation, one of the benefits of a regular meditation practice is hanging on to your grey matter longer! All of us approaching the “Golden Years,” think about the dementia illnesses, and pray that they don’t come to visit us. Many of us have witnessed our parents or older relatives waste away with Alzheimer’s, and it’s, frankly, a scary way to leave this planet.
Doctors have advised us to take supplements like vitamin B12, B6 and D, and to work on puzzles or play brain games on our computers, and to exercise more. Some of us read every new study that comes out (of reliable sources) discovering some new treatment that may help prevent or treat Alzheimer’s.
The substance, called cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), washes in and out of grey and white matter in waves—helping clear out the waste that is often associated with dementia. Like so many other things, the body produces less CSF as we get older.
“The findings demonstrate the potential rejuvenating properties of young CSF for the aging brain.” Prof. Wyss-Coray said.
The “injecting brain liquid” thing may sound kind of gruesome, but the process really is not. The researchers used a tiny tube and pump to both remove the fluid from the younger mice and then insert it into the older mice.
Until this and other possible new treatments for Alzheimer’s become available, the advice we’ve been following – keep exercising, learn meditation, take your vitamins, use your brain for complicated puzzles, etc. is still the standard for keeping that dementia demon away!
Meanwhile, here is a short guided meditation to take away your stress and worry in 5 minutes!
Best of Health,
